These days, the interest in the concept of sympathy has increased. It may due to the fact that the possibility of sympathy has begun to draw attentions as an alternative solution of modern society problems. Modern society has the demands of the times to make a harmony between pluralism and solidarity: how to maintain solidarity among individuals with respect of the autonomy and variety of them. This study concentrates on the concept of sympathy as an alternative way to solve the contradiction between solidarity and variety, with classifying the concept and type of sympathy and implying the political possibilities and limitations of them.

Nowadays modern people are living the most affluent life materially, and are living in the most developed social system. But modern people are very unhappy. The rapid increase of suicide rate, the growing of depression, and the increasing stress are those. This is why this paper is looking for happiness in mind training. Mind training is the way to find real happiness. And mind training is the way to change the world. Therefore, the necessity of mind training in modern society will be considered. Next, the specific contents of mind training will be explored through Zhongyong(中庸) thoughts of the Analects(論語). Finally, the implication of Zhongyong(中庸) thoughts in mind training will be discussed.

Construction of the post-modern civilization is the great task given to this age. What is the teaching of I-Ching to the task? The purpose of this paper is looking for the answer for the question. Nowadays the modern civilization meets the serious crisis. And the fundamental cause of the crisis is the modern view of world which is the basis of the modern civilization. Therefore, the task given to current human being is to design the post-modern civilization based on the new world view and to achieve the great transition of civilization. Based on these awareness, I will look for the principle in construction of the post-modern civilization in I-Ching. The contents of this paper are composed of next three parts. First, revolution of world view through I-Ching is discussed in this paper. The grand transition from the modern world view to the post-modern world view is the first step in constructing the post-modern civilization. The teaching related to world view revolution given in I-Ching is as follows. The start of the grand transition of world view is to get out of the mire of delusion which is made by the modern civilization. And the modern view of world which is old now should be broken down. Second, the basis in constructing the post-modern civilization through I-Ching is looked for. The premise of the post-modern civilization construction is to stop modern efforts. Construction of the post-modern civilization starts from 'the change of myself'. 'The change of myself' means to cultivate virtues inside of me. Third, the last task of this paper is to look for the principles of the post-modern civilization construction. In the I-Ching, it is said that we should not hurry and must know to wait the exact time. We should concentrate all one's efforts to build the post-modern civilization. Lastly it is said that we should have steadiness because building a new civilization is very difficult task.

Now mankind is pressed to change the way of life. This pressure comes not from people or institutions but from the earth. The burdens added to the nature by the excessive desire for the possession, the extreme pursuit for pleasure, and the life of achievement first, comes to mankind as boomerang nowaday. Now we live in an age of inhuman and anti-social spirit, where mankind indulges in stronger pleasure and more wealth. It is time to change the paradigm of life. What should be changed, and how should it be changed? First, the market oriented value system must be converted into that of self realization. Second, the relations based on the struggle for survival should be converted into the relations based on the "dependent origination" which becomes the condition of other's existence. Third, the maximization of utility value must be converted into the maximization of existence value as well as human value. A new philosophical foundation needs to realize such a conversion, which integrates the nature of both man and nature. As an alternative philosophical foundation, this study proposes the theory of dependent origination of Buddhism. The theory defines the law of existence in Buddhism, which defies the mode of modern human life.

Since the New Culture Movement, the traditional culture and values of China began to collapse, and the Western Liberalism and Marxism became the mainstream of culture. In this historical background, a group of Confucianism tried to protect Confucian culture and values through unremittingly efforts, and it gave birth to in 1920s. The first generation of modern neo-Confucians admitted the importance of western democracy and science. In addition, they explain that the Confucian culture is not conflict with the modern culture; the second generation of the modern new Confucianism left the mainland and had activities in Hong Kong and Taiwan area. They tried to find complementary relationship between Confucian culture and the modern democratism; Because of their new horizons of postmodernism, The third generation of the modern new Confucianism emphasize the cultural relativity to seek the cultural resource forover coming modernistic which from the Confucian. In order to repair the traditional culture which was destroyed by Cultural Revolution, China has developing long-term and in-depth cultural Renaissance activities since the 1990s. In 2004, it has also appeared cultural conservatism in China that claimed to establish the Confucius as the National Religion and utilize the authoritarian kingcraft politics instead of democratic politics. But today the development of Confucius tends to be andweensureitsacademicindependenceinordertoreturnthenatureofConfucianism.A splentyofmodernnew Confucianism didn’t reject the idea of political democracy in the past, only in the process that absorb its essence actively will have the real future of Confucianism.

In this study, I try to interpret some serious problems related to Korean suicide and addiction in the light of Confucianism. The Confucian concepts of nature and human beings may be employed to explain the sense of alienation in modern society and to provide a theory to solve the problem of human alienation. In other words, Confucianism provides a new theoretical foundation that enables us to understand and solve the issues of suicide and addiction. Also, Confucian culture plays a significant role in defining the uniqueness of contemporary Korean culture. In order to solve contemporary Korean social problems, therefore, the moral culture of Confucianism must be reviewed. This study diagnoses Korean suicide and addiction as occurring due to the isolation of the ego from its true nature and the absence from society of the dae-dae(待對)relationship, which involves mutually beneficial, win-win relationships. In addition, the absence of family life and the contradiction between family ethics and social ethics are also roots of these problems. These phenomena also give rise to psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and loss of self-purpose and in the end lead to addiction or the extreme behavior of suicide. In the world view of Confucianism I find implicit concepts that are relevant to the problems of suicide and addiction in Korea. In line with this idea, the essential principles of Confucianism are no longer centered on the old academic system of the past, but provide a clue to solving the problems facing modern society.
